Carl Weathers, Former NFL Linebacker and Hollywood Star, Dies at 76

NEW YORK (AP) – Carl Weathers, the former NFL linebacker who gained fame as an actor in Hollywood, has passed away at the age of 76. Known for his roles as Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” movies and for his appearances in films such as “Predator” and “Happy Gilmore,” Weathers was a beloved figure in the entertainment industry.

According to his manager, Matt Luber, Weathers passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday. The family issued a statement expressing their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, his co-star in the film “Predator,” paid tribute to Weathers on Instagram, describing him as an extraordinary athlete, a fantastic actor, and a great person. Schwarzenegger also acknowledged the integral role Weathers played in the success of their collaboration.

Weathers made a name for himself as Apollo Creed, the cocky and charismatic world heavyweight champion in the “Rocky” series.
