One Person Dead in Officer-Involved Shooting in Springfield

Springfield, Tennessee – In a tragic incident last night, one person was killed in an officer-involved shooting, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations.

The incident took place on Blair Street, where Springfield Police were responding to a report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle in question had been reported stolen from One Stop Market, located just a block away on South Main Street.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the stolen car, which had collided in the middle of the road between the intersections of 21st Avenue East and Cherry Street. The vehicle was severely damaged as a result of the collision.

According to the Springfield Police Chief, a man at the scene brandished a gun and fired shots at the officers. In response, the officers returned fire and struck the individual.

The injured man was immediately rushed to TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center for treatment, but tragically, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

This unfortunate incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m., following another shooting incident that took place two blocks away on 18th Street. The victim of the second shooting was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle, and it remains unclear whether the two incidents are related.

As is standard procedure in cases of officer-involved shootings, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations will spearhead the investigation into the incident. Thankfully, none of the officers involved sustained any injuries during the confrontation.
