Former Ahmedabad Mayor and Gynaecologist Dr Mukul Shah Passes Away
Ahmedabad, January 29 – Former mayor of Ahmedabad and renowned gynaecologist, Dr Mukul Shah, breathed his last on Sunday evening due to a heart ailment, according to a statement made by a BJP leader on Monday.
The 74-year-old Dr Mukul Shah passed away at his residence around 8.30 pm. Earlier in the day, he had undergone an angiography procedure at a hospital, as informed by Gaurang Prajapati, a BJP leader in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
A Remarkable Journey of Service and Achievement
Dr Mukul Shah’s contributions to the city of Ahmedabad and his dedication to providing quality education will always be remembered. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences in a post on social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Saddened by the demise of Dr Mukul Shah. He will always be remembered for his efforts in the development of the city as its mayor and for his efforts towards quality education. Prayers for the peace of the departed soul and condolences to his family.”
Born in Ahmedabad, Dr Mukul Shah began his political career as a municipal councillor in 1980. He was re-elected in 1987 and later served as the mayor of Ahmedabad from 1991 to 1992. During his tenure as a municipal councillor, he achieved a significant milestone by becoming the youngest person to hold the positions of deputy mayor, standing committee chairman, and mayor at the AMC.
A Multifaceted Individual
Dr Mukul Shah’s expertise extended beyond politics. In 2012 and 2014, he was appointed as the pro-vice-chancellor of Gujarat University. Additionally, he held the prestigious position of chancellor at Indira Gandhi National Tribal University in Amarkantak. With an MBBS and MD in obstetrics and gynaecology, he served as a registrar and professor at the NHL Medical College, which was run by the AMC. His exceptional contributions to the medical field led to his election as the youngest vice-president of the Ahmedabad Medical Association.
Dr Shah’s passing is a great loss to the medical and political community of Ahmedabad. His tireless efforts and commitment to improving the city and providing quality education have left an indelible mark. As a respected gynaecologist, he touched the lives of countless individuals, and his contributions to the medical field will always be remembered.
