California Hiker Dies of Apparent Heart Attack at Zion National Park
In a tragic incident at Zion National Park, a hiker from California has passed away due to an apparent heart attack. The park officials received a distress call about an unresponsive hiker on the West Rim Trail near Scout Lookout on Friday afternoon. Responding promptly, park rangers hiked to the location with essential medical equipment, including an automated external defibrillator and a heart monitor.
Efforts to Save the Hiker
Upon reaching the patient, they found visitors with emergency medical training performing CPR, while others assisted them. The rangers joined in and administered CPR for nearly an hour and a half, utilizing the AED and monitoring the patient’s condition closely. However, despite their best efforts, the park consulted with a doctor who sadly pronounced the 63-year-old man from San Diego dead.
Superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh expressed his condolences, saying, “All of us at Zion extend our deepest sympathies to this hiker’s family. We also want to express our gratitude to the bystanders who assisted by performing CPR.”
Investigation Underway
The cause of death, at this point in time, is believed to be a cardiac event, according to the available information. However, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Office of the Medical Examiner, and the National Park Service are still investigating the incident to determine the exact cause.
