Lake Elsinore City Treasurer Allen Baldwin, a beloved member of the community, has passed away at the age of 83.
Lake Elsinore City Treasurer Allen Baldwin, a respected council member and the first executive director of a nonprofit affordable housing group in Orange County, has left us with his passing.
On January 19, at the age of 83, Allen passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. The news of his demise was shared in a heartfelt message on Facebook.
Mayor Steve Manos took to Instagram to express his grief. He fondly remembered Allen as a friend, mentor, and a great leader who had made significant contributions to the community over the years. Mayor Manos described Allen as someone who had always been good-humored, wise, and held in high regard.
Having served as the city treasurer since 2009, Allen played a vital role in overseeing Lake Elsinore’s finances and providing valuable tax advice to city officials. Prior to his tenure as treasurer, he had also served on the Lake Elsinore City Council from 1978 to 1982.
In addition to his civic duties, Allen had a remarkable impact on affordable housing in Orange County. In 1978, he became the first executive director of the Orange County Community Housing Corporation, an organization dedicated to helping working families find affordable homes.
The corporation released a statement on Baldwin’s Facebook page, acknowledging his tireless efforts and compassionate advocacy for those in need. They emphasized that his legacy would continue to inspire and have a lasting impact on their organization.
A Navy veteran, Allen Baldwin was married to Linda Sue “Holly” Baldwin for an incredible 57 years. He leaves behind a loving family, including four children, ten grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Following his passing, the city council is working with the city attorney to determine the next steps in finding a new treasurer. Adam Gufarotti, Lake Elsinore’s community support manager, confirmed this information via email.
