A tragic incident occurred this morning at Raglan beach as a man was found unresponsive in the water outside of patrol hours. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning.
Surfers Discover Unconscious Man
At approximately 9am, a group of surfers at Manu Bay, Raglan, made a shocking discovery. They noticed an unconscious man in the water and quickly paddled over to him. Realizing the urgency of the situation, they began making their way back to shore with the man.
Off-Duty Surf Lifeguard Springs into Action
An off-duty surf lifeguard, who happened to be watching the local live surf camera, noticed something unusual happening at the beach. Without hesitation, he rushed down to the scene to offer his assistance. He helped the group of surfers bring the unconscious man onto the rocks.
Efforts to Revive the Man
With the man now on the rocks, the off-duty surf lifeguard immediately began performing CPR. His quick response and life-saving skills were invaluable during this critical moment. Soon after, St John Ambulance arrived at the scene with a defibrillator to provide further medical assistance.
The Raglan surf lifeguard call-out squad, as well as surf lifeguards from Raglan Surf Live Saving Club who were about to start their patrol, also rushed to the scene. Fire and Emergency New Zealand staff were present as well, joining the efforts to save the man’s life.

Despite the combined efforts of everyone involved, tragically, the man could not be resuscitated. The news of his passing has left the community devastated and heartbroken.
