JIMMY CLAYTON, Former WSAV Sports Anchor, Passes Away at 77

Savannah, Georgia – Former WSAV Sports anchor Jimmy Clayton, a beloved figure in the local sports community, has sadly passed away at the age of 77.

A Life Filled with Passion for Sports

Born and raised in Savannah, Jimmy Clayton was a proud graduate of Savannah High School. He went on to pursue his education at the University of Georgia in 1969. It was during these formative years that Clayton’s love for sports began to blossom.

Clayton’s career in the television industry started in the 1970s when he joined the WSAV team. Throughout his time in the industry, he had the privilege of traveling to various states and iconic sports venues, where he had the opportunity to interview numerous sports legends. His passion for all things sports was particularly evident in his unwavering support for UGA football.

Fondly Remembered as a Great Guy

Those who had the pleasure of working with Jimmy Clayton remember him as a kind-hearted individual who always had a friendly and welcoming demeanor. His colleagues and friends have nothing but praise for his warm personality and genuine character.

A Cherished Family Man

Jimmy Clayton is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Patsy, who was his constant companion and source of strength throughout his life. Together, they raised two children and were blessed with five grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as “Pop.”

Funeral Services and Remembrances

A funeral service to honor the life of Jimmy Clayton will be held on Saturday. The visitation will take place from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Rincon First Baptist Church, where Clayton was a devoted member for over three decades. The service itself will commence at 11 a.m., followed by a brief graveside service at Effingham Memorial Gardens in Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that remembrances be given to Manna House Ministries and/or The Gideons International. Donations can be sent to Manna House Ministries at 1210 Patriot Drive, Rincon, GA 31326, and to The Gideons International at PO Box 618, Rincon, GA 31326.

Jimmy Clayton will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the Savannah community. His contributions to the sports industry and his warm presence will be remembered and cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
