Canadian Pole Vaulter Shawn Barber Dies at 29

Jan. 18 (UPI) – Canadian world champion pole vaulter Shawn Barber passed away on Wednesday due to medical complications. He was only 29 years old.

Barber’s agency, Doyle Management Group, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a post on social media on Thursday.

The cause of Barber’s death has not been disclosed, although it is known that he had been experiencing health issues.

A Record-Breaking Career Cut Short

Shawn Barber was a true pioneer in the world of pole vaulting. He held the Canadian record, with an impressive personal best of six meters that he achieved at the Pole Vault Summit in 2016.

His talent and dedication led him to achieve remarkable success throughout his career. Barber won gold medals at both the World Championships in Beijing and the Pan-Am Games in 2015, solidifying his status as a world-class athlete.

Despite facing tough competition, Barber made it to the finals of the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro. Although he finished in 10th place, his presence on the Olympic stage was a testament to his skill and determination.
