Shawnacy “Shawn” Barber, the record holder for pole vaulting in Canada, has sadly passed away at the age of 29. He died due to medical complications at his home in Kingwood, Texas.
Barber, who held both American and Canadian citizenship, had an illustrious career in the sport of pole vaulting. In 2015, he achieved gold medals at both the Pan American Games and the World Championships.
One of the highlights of Barber’s career was setting a new Canadian record clearance of six meters (19 feet, 8 ¼ inches) at the 2016 Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nevada.
