The Passing of CMSgt. (Ret.) Richard D. Gaylor, 5th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force

The 433rd Airlift Wing is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) Richard D. Gaylor, the 5th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force. Chief Gaylor dedicated 31 years of his life in service to his country and retired in 1979. His remarkable legacy and contributions to the Air Force will forever be remembered.

Born on an Air Force base in 1932, Richard Gaylor grew up with a deep admiration for the military. He enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 18, beginning his journey as an Airman Basic. Throughout his career, Gaylor excelled in various roles and quickly rose through the ranks. His exceptional leadership skills and dedication to his fellow servicemen and women earned him the respect and admiration of his peers.

In 1969, Gaylor became the 5th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, a position that allowed him to have a significant impact on the entire Air Force community. During his tenure, he focused on improving the quality of life for enlisted personnel, advocating for better pay and benefits, and enhancing training programs. His unwavering commitment to the well-being of his fellow Airmen left an indelible mark on the Air Force.
