The sole occupant of the Toyota, identified as 81-year-old Arthur Loring Schoenstadt of Salinas, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Acura was taken to Natividad Medical Center with unknown injuries.
CHP suspects that DUI may have played a role in the crash, and the driver of the Acura will be booked into Monterey County Jail for DUI once released from the hospital. Additional charges, such as vehicular manslaughter, may also be brought against the driver.
