A 19-year-old man from British Columbia, Anwer Jelassi, is facing almost two dozen charges related to online sexual extortion after victims from Nova Scotia, Quebec, and Ontario reported the incidents to authorities.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Burnaby, B.C., launched an investigation in December 2022, identifying Jelassi as the suspect. The victims reported being extorted after sharing explicit images with someone they met on social media platforms, who then demanded money under threat of sending the images to their social networks.

The charges against Jelassi include nine counts of extortion, as well as charges related to luring a child under 16, child pornography, and publishing intimate images without consent. The majority of the victims are between the ages of 15 and 18.
