Despite efforts to save him, the 28-year-old deputy succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital.

Deputy Esqueda had dedicated five years of service to the sheriff’s office and was a valued member of the Violent Person Task Force. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez expressed his condolences, stating, "We stand in solidarity with Deputy Esqueda’s family, friends, and fellow officers during this incredibly challenging time. In a positive turn of events, Ronald Palmer was apprehended by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office the following day without incident.
