RAUTAHAT, JULY 12

Tragedy struck in Gadhimai Municipality of Rautahat district on Friday morning as a car carrying participants of a marriage procession skidded off the road, resulting in two fatalities and three injuries.

The ill-fated incident took place at around 9:00 AM when a Scorpio car with an Indian registration number HR 70 D 8382 lost control and plunged into a nearby canal, according to the local police reports.

The victims have been identified as Kal Bahadur Shrestha, a 55-year-old from Kathmandu, and Sweta Pandey, a 7-year-old resident of Sundarpur, Chakraghatta Rural Municipality-3, Sarlahi, as confirmed by the District Police Office, Rautahat.

With a total of 12 passengers on board, the car had five individuals escape unscathed, while three others, yet to be identified, were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

Authorities are currently on the lookout for the driver of the vehicle, who absconded from the scene following the tragic incident. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alija Giri, the spokesperson for the District Police Office, Rautahat, has assured that efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing driver.
