Chirang, 12th July: The Chirang district of Assam was rocked by a shocking incident when an 18-year-old girl went missing after falling from a wooden bridge over the Kujia River in Rabhapara village on Thursday afternoon.

Reports suggest that the tragic incident occurred at around 3.30 pm while the girl was travelling on a scooter with her 2-year-old niece. The girl, identified as Junmoni Rabha, fell from the bridge along with her vehicle. Fortunately, the child was rescued in an injured condition and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

Following the incident, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team along with the police rushed to the scene and initiated a search and rescue operation to locate the missing girl.

Junmoni Rabha had come to visit her sister in Rabhapara just two days prior to the incident. The local residents alleged that the dilapidated state of the wooden bridge was the main cause of the tragic incident. The bridge, which connects Chirang and Bongaigaon districts, has been neglected for a long time, posing a danger to the hundreds of people who use it regularly.

The lack of maintenance of the bridge has been a concern for the residents, and the incident has brought to light the negligence of the BTC administration in ensuring the safety of the public.
