The crash occurred near Helena, Montana, as the aircraft hit a mountainside and crashed into Hauser Lake while battling a fire at Horse Gulch northeast of the city.
Details of the Incident
According to reports from the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s office, the pilot of the aircraft was identified as 45-year-old Juliana Turchetti, a Brazilian national working in the United States on a visa. Turchetti was employed by Dauntless Air, a company with over 25 years of experience in aerial firefighting. Dauntless Air has contracts with state and federal agencies, including the Idaho Department of Lands, and was assisting the U.S. Forest Service in combating the Horse Gulch fire at the time of the crash.

Following the tragic incident, Dauntless Air released a statement expressing their regret over the loss of the pilot’s life. The statement read, in part: “We regret to share that a Dauntless Air aerial firefighting aircraft working to control the Horse Gulch fire in Helena, Montana, yesterday afternoon was involved in an accident that resulted in the loss of the pilot’s life.
