INMAN, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A man has been apprehended by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office after a dramatic high-speed chase on Thursday.

The incident unfolded just after 5 p.m. when a deputy noticed a suspect vehicle nearly colliding with another car and then accelerating rapidly on Highway 292, crossing over I-26. The deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop, leading to a pursuit.

The chase took a dangerous turn when the driver reached a dead end, turned around, and drove towards the deputy while straddling the double yellow line. The deputy had to swerve to avoid a collision as the driver passed by and attempted to initiate a stop.

Despite the deputy’s efforts, the suspect managed to evade spike strips twice and continued the chase onto I-85. As the vehicles approached mile marker 75, a Campobello Police unit overtook all other units in the pursuit and rammed into the suspect’s vehicle, causing it to veer off the right side of the interstate.

While assessing the situation to see if the suspect’s vehicle was disabled, the driver suddenly accelerated and crashed into the passenger side of the deputy’s patrol car before fleeing the scene. The suspect eventually lost control of the vehicle, prompting the Campobello unit to ram it and pin it against the already damaged patrol car.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Jeremy Allen Gonzalez, was arrested without further incident and taken to the Spartanburg County Detention Center. Meanwhile, the passenger in the vehicle, who was not taken into custody, sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The sheriff’s office disclosed that the pursuit reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone, covering a distance of approximately 28.1 miles.
