Tyler, Texas — The Tyler community is coming together to mourn the tragic loss of 19-year-old Eli Sanchez, who was fatally shot on July 4. Memorial services for Sanchez will be held on Friday at Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Tyler.
The funeral service, officiated by Rev. John D. Johnson III, will take place at 3 p.m. A viewing will be held prior to the service, starting at 2 p.m.
Sanchez’s life was cut short in a senseless act of violence. While driving with two friends on Old Gladewater Hwy. on July 4, their journey took a tragic turn when they encountered a dead end. Upon turning around to head back, they passed by Bautista Auto Sales, where multiple gunshots were fired at their vehicle. Tragically, Sanchez, who was seated in the back, was struck in the head by a bullet. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The suspect in the shooting has been identified as Seferino Bautista-Renteria, the 35-year-old owner of Bautista Auto Sales. The investigation into this senseless act of violence is currently ongoing as authorities work to bring justice for Sanchez and his loved ones.
In the wake of this tragedy, the community has rallied around Sanchez’s family to provide support during this difficult time.
