Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities in Lufkin, Texas have identified the deceased man found last week in the 100 block of Collins Street as David Meinerding, a 67-year-old resident of the area. The discovery was made by Lufkin Police officers who responded to the scene around 5:15 a.m. on July 2.

Upon arrival, officers encountered aggressive dogs near Meinerding’s body, which led to one officer being bitten. In order to ensure the safety of the officers, two of the dogs had to be dispatched. The investigation into Meinerding’s death is ongoing, with the completion of his autopsy expected to shed light on the possible involvement of the dogs in the incident.

Despite the tragic circumstances, foul play is not suspected in Meinerding’s death, according to a press release issued by the Lufkin Police Department. The injured officer who was bitten received medical treatment at a local urgent care facility and has since returned to duty.
