MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Vontavious Muirhead, the 18-year-old charged with murder in connection to a crime spree in Memphis’ Oakhaven area, has been granted bond. According to records from the Shelby County Jail, Muirhead was given a bond amount of $1,200,000 on Wednesday. The case is being overseen by Shelby County Criminal Court Judge Christian Johnson, with attorney Mark Alan Renken representing Muirhead.

In addition to Muirhead, a 13-year-old has also been implicated in the crimes. Both teenagers are facing charges of first-degree murder in the perpetration of an aggravated robbery, as well as three counts of aggravated robbery and theft of property. The identity of the 13-year-old has not been disclosed.

The Memphis Police Department has reported that the two teenagers were involved in a series of criminal activities between July 2 and July 3.

The first incident occurred at the Woodlake Apartments early on Tuesday morning, where a red 2018 Kia Sorento was stolen from the parking lot between 3 and 4 a.m.

Following this, the suspects carried out an armed robbery at 4:15 a.m. at a food truck located at an Exxon gas station on Winchester Road. The victims, both employees of the truck, stated that $400, a cellphone, and a set of car keys were taken. Witnesses reported seeing the suspects fleeing the scene in the stolen Sorento.

At 4:28 a.m., a fatal shooting took place at Love’s Truck Stop on Lamar Avenue, where Edgar Wiley was killed during an attempted robbery. Police confirmed that the stolen Sorento was used in the robbery that turned deadly.

Subsequently, at 5:03 a.m., another robbery occurred at the same Exxon gas station, with a man being robbed of his wallet and cellphone at gunpoint while refuelling his vehicle. The perpetrators fled in the stolen Sorento.

The following day, at 11:27 p.m., another robbery took place at the same gas station, where the victim was held at gunpoint by the suspects. The victim reported that he was assaulted and robbed of his belongings before the perpetrators fled in the stolen Sorento.

The stolen Sorento was discovered outside a residence on Bishops Bridge Road on the afternoon of July 4. Muirhead and the 13-year-old were apprehended after abandoning the vehicle.

Muirhead’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 16, while no information is available regarding the court proceedings for the 13-year-old at this time.
