A man from Missouri has been indicted for allegedly murdering a woman, whose remains were found in a barrel in the Missouri River. Timothy M. Haslett, of Excelsior Springs, was charged with murder in connection with the death of 36-year-old Jaynie Crosdale. Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson stated that Crosdale was killed “by an act of homicidal violence,” with her remains showing impact wounds consistent with a gunshot.

Haslett was previously indicted on charges of rape, sodomy, assault, kidnapping, and endangering the welfare of a child. He is currently being held in the Clay County Detention Center on a $5 million bond.

The case against Haslett began when a woman escaped from his basement after weeks of torture. She reported to law enforcement that Haslett had held her captive, raped her, and subjected her to physical and sexual abuse. The survivor managed to slip out of her restraints and flee to safety, wearing a trash bag, a padlocked collar, and duct tape.

During her captivity, the survivor revealed that Haslett had described killing two other women in a similar manner. One was suffocated with a gas mask, while the other died after enduring violent sexual torture. Haslett threatened the survivor with a similar fate if she did not comply with his demands.

Authorities spent over 1,200 hours investigating the case, following more than 100 leads in search of Crosdale. Progress was made when kayakers discovered a blue barrel containing human remains while camping along the Missouri River in Saline County. The remains were identified as Crosdale in July 2023.

Thompson emphasised that the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with information to come forward. He stated, “Today’s indictment represents the next step in our pursuit of justice for the victims, the families, and our community. The physical, psychological, and sexual torture described by the defendant’s surviving victim is brutal and barbaric.”
