Samuel L. Gizaw : Teen Suspect Pleads Not Guilty in Lynnwood Mall Murder

Accident – Death – Obituary News : An Edmonds teenager pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to the murder of a 13-year-old girl who was shot inside the Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, according to the Daily Herald of Everett. The suspect, identified as 16-year-old Samuel L. Gizaw, appeared in Snohomish County Superior Court where Judge Marybeth Dingledy set his bail at $2 million. Gizaw faces charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and juvenile possession of the firearm used in the shooting.

On July 3, Gizaw was arrested by Lynnwood Police Department officers and charged as an adult the following day. He posted a $500,000 bond on July 4, leading to his release from custody. The victim of the tragic mall shooting has been identified as Jayda Woods-Johnson, a 13-year-old girl who was caught in the crossfire during an altercation between two groups of teenagers near the food court.

Despite being an innocent bystander, Woods-Johnson tragically lost her life in the shooting. The Johnsons also debunked a false GoFundMe page set up in their daughter’s name and directed those wishing to support them to a verified fundraiser started by a family friend. Messages of sympathy and support poured in from the community, with Lynnwood Mayor Christine Frizzell and Alderwood Mall expressing their condolences for the tragic loss.
