A devastating incident occurred in Obiaruku, Delta State, where a 23-year-old man, identified as Samson, brutally stabbed his 50-year-old mother to death. The heinous crime took place on Wednesday at Jehovah Street, Obiedike, Obiaruku, shocking the entire community.
The young man had a troubled past, having been sent away for engaging with drug peddlers and substance abuse, which had a detrimental effect on his mental health. Despite his return to his parents’ care in Obiaruku, his mother sought local remedies to help stabilize his erratic behaviour.
According to a neighbour, the tragic incident unfolded early in the morning when the mother caught Samson smoking weed outside their home. In a bid to discourage his harmful habit, she confronted him, not knowing it would lead to such a horrific outcome.
Enraged by his mother’s reprimand, Samson retreated into the house, only to return with a kitchen knife, which he used to fatally wound his own mother. The neighbour recounted the chilling moment when the elder brother, a sickle cell patient, raised the alarm, alerting others to the gruesome scene.

Despite the gruesome act, Samson remained by his mother’s lifeless body, clutching the blood-stained knife until police officers arrived at the scene. In a viral video capturing the aftermath, concerned neighbours can be seen pleading with the disturbed young man to drop the weapon.
