Accident – Death – Obituary News : A recent search conducted by law enforcement officials at a home in Randolph Township is being linked to the disappearance of Nicole Irene “Nikki” Anderson, as reported by Courtesy KARE 11 News. Nicole, a 56-year-old white female, went missing after leaving her home to get the mail on Saturday morning and never returned. The BCA is treating her case as an Endangered Missing Person situation due to concerns for her well-being.

Nicole, who stands at 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs approximately 135 pounds, has blond hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing dark-colored pants, sandals, and a long gray sweater or shirt. Her family expressed deep concern over her sudden disappearance, especially considering her recent battle with breast cancer and the fact that she left behind her dog, phone, wallet, car, and essential medications.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with other authorities, took at least one person into custody during the search at the Anderson family estate. According to reports, the individual in custody is known to the family and local authorities. The search is ongoing, and efforts are being made to locate Nicole and ensure her safe return.
In other news, the Northfield School Board recently discussed the importance of districtwide security drills during a meeting. These drills, which include lockdown, evacuation, and shelter in place exercises, are designed to prepare students for emergency situations such as active shooter incidents, fires, and tornadoes. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matt Hillmann emphasized the need for students to feel confident in handling emergencies while minimizing any added anxiety.
Dr. Hillmann stressed that despite the seriousness of the drills, schools are statistically safe environments for children. Staff and faculty receive training from various sources, including the State Department of Homeland Security, to effectively respond to emergencies. The goal is to ensure that students are prepared without causing unnecessary fear or stress.

Additionally, the Northfield City Council approved a resolution supporting the turnback of ownership for Trunk Highway 246 to the city of Northfield. This stretch of highway, which runs between County Road 1 and Highway 3, is in poor condition and requires immediate attention. By taking over ownership, the city can expedite the road’s reconstruction and implement design improvements, such as roundabouts, traffic signals, bicycle lanes, and pedestrian crossings.
Mayor Rhonda Pownell highlighted the benefits of having a city-approved design plan in place, which can attract more funding for the project. City Administrator Ben Martig explained that the turnback request, alongside the approved design, will help secure additional state funding for the road reconstruction. The process is expected to undergo legislative review, potentially taking a year or more before the turnback is finalized.
