Last week, Secretary of State Wes Allen of Alabama and Secretary of State Nancy Landry of Louisiana came together to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at enhancing the integrity of the states’ voter files. The agreement will enable the cross-checking of voter registration information to identify individuals who may be registered to vote in both states. Once potentially ineligible voters are identified, the Secretary of State’s office will initiate the voter removal process in compliance with the National Voter Registration Act.
Louisiana becomes the sixth state to partner with Alabama in the Alabama Voter Integrity Database (AVID) initiative. AVID was created by Secretary Allen and his team as a state-based alternative to the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), a private third-party group previously used for voter file maintenance.
Commitment to Election Integrity
Secretary Allen emphasised the importance of election security, stating, “Proper voter file maintenance is the cornerstone of election integrity.” He reiterated his promise to withdraw Alabama from ERIC during his campaign and highlighted AVID as the solution for ensuring the cleanliness and accuracy of Alabama’s voter file.
Secretary Allen expressed confidence in AVID, stating, “Alabama voters can trust that their elections are conducted fairly, securely, and transparently.” He credited his team’s months of planning and development for the successful implementation of AVID.

Appreciation for Collaboration
Secretary Allen extended his gratitude to the staff of both the Alabama and Louisiana Secretary of State’s offices for their efforts in preparing the MOU. He praised the collaboration between the two teams and acknowledged the identification of over 140,000 potentially ineligible voters through AVID so far.
Alabama has now established MOUs with all four of its border states and with Arkansas, solidifying AVID’s progress in enhancing election integrity across state lines. The signed MOUs can be viewed on the Alabama Secretary of State’s website.
