Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Roster Criticism

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, released in 2017, faced criticism not only for its graphics but also for its roster selection. One of the main reasons behind this backlash was the absence of X-Men and Fantastic 4 characters in the game. This decision was influenced by the fact that Disney did not own the rights to these characters at the time, as they were owned by 20th Century Fox.

The Impact of Licensing Issues

Due to licensing agreements, Disney, who owns Marvel, did not have access to X-Men and Fantastic 4 characters for Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. This limitation significantly impacted the game’s roster, as these characters are fan favorites and have played a significant role in previous Marvel vs Capcom titles. The absence of these characters left many fans disappointed and feeling like something essential was missing from the game.

Fan Disappointment

Many fans of the Marvel vs Capcom series were disappointed with the roster selection in Infinite. The absence of iconic characters like Wolverine, Deadpool, and Doctor Doom was a major blow to the game’s appeal. These characters have been fan favorites for years and have played crucial roles in previous installments of the series. Without them, many fans felt that the game lacked the diversity and excitement that they had come to expect from Marvel vs Capcom titles.

The Influence of Corporate Ownership

The issue of character rights in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite highlights the complex nature of corporate ownership in the entertainment industry. The fact that Disney did not own the rights to certain characters at the time of the game’s development had a direct impact on the roster selection. This serves as a reminder that corporate decisions and licensing agreements can have a significant influence on creative projects, even ones as beloved as the Marvel vs Capcom series.

Fan Response and Future Expectations

Despite the roster limitations in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, the game still garnered a dedicated fan base and has its supporters. However, the absence of X-Men and Fantastic 4 characters remains a sore point for many fans, who hope to see these characters included in future Marvel vs Capcom titles. As Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox has since been completed, there is now potential for a more diverse and exciting roster in future installments of the series.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the criticism of Marvel vs Capcom Infinite’s roster selection highlights the intricate relationship between corporate ownership and creative projects. The absence of X-Men and Fantastic 4 characters in the game left many fans feeling disappointed and longing for their inclusion. As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, fans can only hope that future Marvel vs Capcom titles will be able to deliver a more comprehensive and satisfying roster for players to enjoy.
