Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragedy struck the Store Mbili village in Njoro, Nakuru County, as a 13-year-old girl lost her life in a horrific road accident allegedly caused by a drunk driver. The victim, identified as Margaret, was a Grade Five student at Mutirima Primary School. The incident occurred early on Tuesday, July 9, while Margaret was walking to school with her younger sister.

According to reports, the two sisters were hit by a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old man, accompanied by two youths who were believed to be under the influence of alcohol after a night of revelry in Njoro town. Margaret’s mother, Beth Nyambura, recounted the harrowing events of that fateful morning. She woke her children at 5 am, prepared them for school, and bid them farewell as they set off for their educational journey. However, within minutes of leaving home at approximately 6:30 am, tragedy struck when her younger daughter returned in distress, bearing the heartbreaking news of Margaret’s fatal accident.

Describing Margaret as a diligent and disciplined girl full of life, Beth Nyambura expressed her shock and disbelief at the sudden loss of her beloved daughter. The grieving mother narrated how her younger daughter also sustained injuries in the accident, further adding to the family’s agony. A neighbour, Peter Ngugi, who witnessed the tragic incident, described hearing a loud bang and rushing to the scene to find the overturned vehicle that had struck the two sisters.

The occupants of the vehicle, two young men and a woman, were reportedly inebriated, with the driver admitting to consuming alcohol at a club in the Egerton area before the fatal collision. The community members swiftly apprehended the individuals, leading to their arrest by the police. Njoro Sub-County Police Commander Paul Wambugu confirmed the driver’s identity as Sammy Kirubi and announced a manhunt for the fleeing suspect.

As investigations into the fatal accident continue, authorities have impounded the vehicle at Njoro Police Station, and Margaret’s body has been transferred to Egerton Funeral Home. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of drunk driving and the devastating consequences it can have on innocent lives. The local community mourns the loss of a promising young soul and calls for justice to be served in the wake of this senseless tragedy..
