The tragic incident occurred last September when Officer Cram was attempting to serve Ricke with an arrest warrant. According to court documents, Ricke shot Officer Cram during the encounter, resulting in the officer’s untimely death.

Officer Kevin Cram was a dedicated member of the Algona Police Department, having served for 10 years with the force since 2015. His loss has deeply impacted the community and his colleagues.

Following the shooting, Ricke fled the area but was apprehended in Minnesota shortly after. The trial proceedings began earlier this week, with prosecutors presenting evidence that Cram was killed before he could even draw his weapon.

During the trial, dash and body camera footage of the incident was shown, capturing the tragic moment. Screams from a woman, later identified as Ricke’s mother, could be heard in the background.

In a surprising turn of events, Ricke’s mother testified that she witnessed her son pull the trigger that claimed Officer Cram’s life. However, Ricke’s defense team argued that the act was not premeditated and that he did not intend to kill anyone.

The jury ultimately found Ricke guilty of First Degree Murder, a conviction that carries a mandatory life sentence in prison. The community continues to mourn the loss of Officer Cram, a dedicated public servant who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
