A Calgary woman is facing charges after a dog tragically died in a hot car for over two hours on Canada Day. The incident took place in the community of McKenzie Lake, specifically on Mount Copper Green S.E.
Calgary Police responded to reports of a distressed dog at around 5 p.m. that Monday. Upon arrival, an officer discovered the dog, a four-year-old Alaskan malamute, German shepherd crossbreed named Lucky, lying unresponsive on the floor of the vehicle.
Witnesses informed the officer that they had seen the dog panting heavily, to the point where the car was shaking, and eventually, the dog stopped responding to knocks on the window. The windows were closed, and the doors were locked, prompting the officer to break a window to rescue the dog. Unfortunately, Lucky was found deceased inside the car.

Kaitlyn Rose Folkins, 30, is now facing charges of injuring an animal and causing distress to an animal. Acting Insp. Scott Neilson of the Calgary Police Service expressed that Lucky’s death was a preventable tragedy and urged Calgarians to think twice before leaving animals in hot cars.
