The Atlanta Police Department has made public the body camera footage of two officers who were involved in a dramatic multi-county chase of a hijacked Gwinnett County transit bus back in June. The video footage reveals the intense pursuit and the actions taken by law enforcement officers in an effort to stop the bus and apprehend the suspect.

During the chase, the officers can be seen deploying traffic-stopping devices in an attempt to halt the bus. Despite their efforts, the bus continued to elude capture and evade the obstacles placed in its path. The suspect, later identified as Joseph Grier, was reported to be armed during the hijacking incident.

Joseph Grier, 39, was eventually apprehended and charged with numerous offences in connection with the bus hijacking. Tragically, one of the passengers on the bus was shot and killed during the ordeal. The passengers were held hostage for the duration of the pursuit, which spanned multiple counties and lasted approximately 45 minutes.

The chase began in Atlanta and eventually came to an end in DeKalb County, with law enforcement agencies from DeKalb and Gwinnett counties, as well as the Georgia State Patrol, joining in the pursuit. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that the pursuit was only brought to a stop when a Georgia State Patrol trooper fired his rifle into the bus’ engine, causing it to malfunction and cease its forward progress.
