The victim, who was chatting with his mother on FaceTime, was gunned down on the northwest side of St. Louis on March 2, 2022. The suspect, Jonathon Xavier Jones, 19, is currently at large as police continue their search for him.
Details of the Crime
The victim was on his way to meet his mother at her workplace when the tragic incident occurred. His mother, who was on a FaceTime call with him, heard gunshots and witnessed her son falling to the ground. The victim had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness reported seeing a white Dodge Journey drive close to the victim before shots were fired from both driver’s side windows. Surveillance footage captured the vehicle in various locations before and after the shooting, providing crucial evidence in the case.
Suspect’s Criminal History
Despite his young age, Jones had a history of violence. Prior to the fatal shooting, he had escaped from a juvenile detention facility where he was being held for another alleged homicide. Police found fingerprints belonging to Jones inside the Dodge used in the shooting, as well as firearms at his residence that matched the ballistic evidence from the crime scene.
Witnesses who were present in the Dodge at the time of the shooting confirmed that Jones was the driver and the shooter. Jones is facing multiple charges, including murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.
