A tragic incident unfolded in Aleosan, Cotabato on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, resulting in the loss of six lives and injuries to six other individuals, including members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF).

The fallen hero has been identified as Master Sergeant Jed Michael Gregorio, a dedicated member of the PNP who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The wounded SAF personnel, comprising Captain Marc Bryan Tamid-Ay, Captain Kirk John Kollin, Staff Master Sergeant Alcher Dacula, Corporal Mark Joseph Galanta, Patrolman John Steven Luyun, and Corporal Emonrick Gadat, are currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries.

The operation was intended to execute two search warrants targeting an individual known as alias “Kwat/Iskoh” and his four associates for alleged violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. However, the situation quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.

According to reports, the suspects initiated the gunfire, prompting the police team to retaliate in self-defence. The exchange of bullets lasted for approximately half an hour, resulting in the fatalities of the five suspects.

Authorities recovered significant evidence from the scene, including sachets of suspected shabu valued at around P324,000 and a cache of high-powered firearms, including rifles, a handgun, and various types of ammunition.
