A devastating incident occurred in Cox’s Bazar as heavy rains triggered landslides, resulting in the loss of a woman and a child’s life. The landslides struck the Sikder Bazar area of Ward No. 7 in Cox’s Bazar municipality and the ABC Ghona area of the city.

The victims have been identified as 30-year-old Jamila Akhtar and 5-year-old Nazmul Hasan, the son of Saiful Islam. According to Md Rakibuzzaman, chief of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station, the tragedies unfolded amidst persistent moderate to heavy rainfall that had been plaguing the city since midnight on Wednesday.

One of the landslides occurred early on Thursday morning, engulfing Saiful Islam’s house and trapping young Nazmul inside as he slept. Despite the efforts of locals to dig through the soil and rescue the child, he was rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors, unfortunately, declared him dead.

In a separate incident, Jamila was caught in another landslide while she was asleep next to the kitchen, with her husband in a different room. The locals managed to extract her from the debris and rushed her to the hospital, where she, too, was pronounced dead by the medical professionals.
