CHESTER, S.C. (WBTV) – A man was apprehended by Chester County deputies following a dramatic car chase that culminated in a harrowing crash on Thursday morning, as reported by the sheriff’s office.

The suspect, who has been identified as Eric Jones, faces a slew of charges including Driving Under Suspension, Failure to Stop for Blue Lights, Trafficking in Fentanyl (28 Grams or More), Trafficking Methamphetamine (28 grams or more), and Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I-III substances.

According to authorities, the incident unfolded around 6:30 a.m. when deputies attempted to pull over Jones in the vicinity of JA Cochran Bypass and Columbia Road in Chester.

Upon discovering that Jones was driving with a suspended license, deputies instructed him to exit the vehicle. However, Jones refused to comply, engaging in a heated argument with the officers before abruptly shutting his car door and speeding away.

The pursuit eventually came to a crashing halt on Ashford Road, where Jones’s vehicle went airborne before colliding with the ground. Subsequently, he was taken into custody without further incident and promptly transported to the hospital for treatment of his collision-related injuries before being transferred to the Chester County Detention Center.

Law enforcement officials disclosed that a significant quantity of illicit substances was seized during the operation, including approximately 112 grams of fentanyl, 56 grams of methamphetamine, and an assortment of pills suspected to be controlled substances, alongside a sum of $4,373 in cash.

Sheriff Max Dorsey remarked, “Given that just 2 milligrams of Fentanyl can prove fatal, the amount of fentanyl confiscated in this traffic stop is estimated to be equivalent to nearly 56,000 deadly doses.”
