A tragic incident occurred in Flemington Borough on Wednesday, resulting in the death of a young man due to injuries sustained in a tree-chipping equipment accident. Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée Robeson confirmed the unfortunate news.
Emergency services were alerted to the scene at Saint Magdalen Cemetery following a distressing 9-1-1 call received at approximately 6:20 p.m. Responding officers discovered the lifeless body of Eonias Mateo-Perez, a 22-year-old resident of Flemington, who had tragically passed away as a result of severe injuries sustained while operating tree-chipping machinery, as reported by Robeson.
An initial examination of the circumstances pointed to the incident being accidental in nature, according to Robeson. However, the investigation is ongoing, with the involvement of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) officials who arrived at the scene to conduct further inquiries.
