The 33-year-old recruit was just days away from graduating and officially becoming an officer.

The unfortunate event took place at Rodman’s Neck, a location used by the police for training purposes. According to a spokesperson from the New York Police Department, Ordonez suddenly lost consciousness at 11:30 a.m. and was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Ordonez’s death. While it has been confirmed that there was no involvement of gunfire, speculations point towards the possibility of heat stroke or a heart attack. The National Weather Service had issued a heat advisory for the Bronx on the same day, with temperatures soaring up to 99°F (37.2°C).
