Captain Alberto Leos provided details of the swift response from officers, stating, “Within minutes, our officers arrived on scene, spotted the suspect outside the residence, and initiated a foot pursuit. The suspect was apprehended without any injuries sustained during the chase.” The individual in question has been identified as Dillon Baldwin Acuna, aged 22, who has since been charged with burglary and is currently detained on a $50,000 bail. During the pursuit, Acuna reportedly stumbled into a swimming pool while attempting to evade capture.

Despite the pursuit traversing multiple backyards, several residents, including Sergio Morejon, were unaware of the unfolding events. Morejon expressed concerns about the safety of the neighbourhood, particularly given its proximity to San Diego State University and the high number of female residents. Reflecting on the incident, Morejon remarked, “Just don’t feel as safe as one would like to in their home.” He emphasized the importance of securing properties to prevent similar intrusions.

Authorities revealed that there have been no recent reports of prowlers in the area but are investigating whether this incident was an isolated occurrence or part of a pattern. Captain Leos urged residents with home surveillance systems to review their footage for any suspicious activity in the vicinity. With the current warm weather conditions, law enforcement officials are cautioning the public to remain vigilant and secure their homes effectively. Captain Leos issued a timely reminder, stating, “We know it’s hot. It’s going to continue to be hot for the foreseeable future. We just ask to please lock your homes up, right? Keep them locked up. Don’t keep the doors unlocked. The screen doors open. Make sure you lock your residence at night when you go to sleep.”

In conclusion, while no injuries were reported in this incident, the San Diego Police are urging residents to take precautions to safeguard their homes and enhance security measures. By remaining vigilant and proactive, individuals can help deter potential intruders and protect their properties from unwanted incursions..
