Accident – Death – Obituary News : A discovery made by children in Clear Creek County back in 2018 has finally been identified, as sheriff’s officials revealed on Wednesday. After an extensive six-year search involving the expertise of forensic anthropologists, DNA extraction, and genetic testing, Colorado investigators have determined that the human skull found belongs to David Michael Crady, born on the 10th of October, 1955, according to a recent news release from the Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation into Crady’s death is still ongoing, with no leads yet on the circumstances surrounding his demise or how his skull ended up in Clear Creek County. The skull, along with a tooth fragment discovered nearby, was found next to a power pole near Silver Lakes Drive in the Lawson community of Clear Creek County on May 11, 2018. Though missing its lower jaw, the skull was otherwise undamaged.

A subsequent examination of the skull revealed that Crady had been deceased for a minimum of four months, but more probably for one or more years, as per sheriff’s officials. The skull was then sent to the University of North Texas for DNA extraction, with the results entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

The case was taken over by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation in 2023, and through the use of advanced genealogy techniques, a DNA match for the skull was successfully found, the release highlighted. Upon reaching out to the match, investigators discovered that family members had lost contact with a sibling “several years prior” and requested them to provide a DNA sample. In early May, CBI confirmed the identity with a 99.99% accuracy match.

Sheriff Matthew Harris expressed his gratitude for the collaborative efforts of the University of North Texas, CBI, and the forensic experts involved in the case. He stated in the news release, “This identification will hopefully provide some closure for Mr. Crady’s family.”
