Two teenagers have been arrested and charged in connection with a series of shootings in Charlotte that left one person dead early Tuesday morning. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department apprehended a 16-year-old in the early hours of the morning and Carlos Roberto Diaz, 18, later in the afternoon.

Deputy Chief Tonya Arrington of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police stated that officers stopped a suspicious vehicle being driven by the juvenile and discovered a gun, which was later confirmed to be stolen.
Both teenagers are facing charges of first-degree murder. Additionally, Diaz has been charged with attempted murder, shooting into occupied dwellings and vehicles, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Arrington reassured the public that law enforcement is not seeking any additional suspects at this time and believes that all individuals involved are now in custody.
The shootings occurred in quick succession early Tuesday morning, with five incidents taking place within a 30-minute timeframe. Four of the shootings took place just northwest of uptown Charlotte, while the fifth occurred in Steele Creek.

Tragically, 58-year-old Mustaffa Muhammad lost his life on Statesville Avenue during one of the shootings. Loved ones revealed to WSOC-TV that Muhammad was on his way home from work when the incident occurred. Two other victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Police initially characterized the shootings as random and interconnected.
Despite the severity of the incidents, Arrington stated that the shootings do not appear to be gang-related. Based on the evidence and observations made by detectives, it is believed that the individuals were planning to carry out further shootings.
“We have reason to believe that the 16-year-old juvenile intended to continue this violent crime spree,” Arrington declared.
Charlotte has experienced a troubling start to the year in terms of violent crime, with the total number of homicides reaching 68. By comparison, at the same time last year, there were 49 reported homicides.
