ATLANTA — A dramatic incident unfolded on Tuesday night in Atlanta, as a Fulton County deputy was forced to shoot a man who allegedly crashed a stolen car and pointed a gun at deputies. The suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Travan Yarborough, and fortunately, no deputies were injured in the altercation.

According to Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat, the incident began when a deputy initiated a pursuit of a car that had been reported stolen from Decatur. The chase came to a halt when Yarborough crashed the stolen vehicle into a power pole on Delmar Lane NW in northwest Atlanta.

In a tense moment, Yarborough reportedly exited the car and aimed a firearm at the deputy, prompting the law enforcement officer to fire back in self-defence.

Following the shooting, Yarborough fled the scene and sought refuge behind a nearby house. However, deputies were able to locate and apprehend him shortly thereafter. Despite sustaining injuries, Yarborough’s condition is said to be non-life-threatening. He is expected to face multiple felony charges in connection with the incident.

Additionally, an individual who was a passenger in the stolen car was transported to a local hospital for observation via ambulance.

Sheriff Labat noted that this marks the second deputy-involved shooting for the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office this year. The investigation into the incident has been handed over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
