A devastating incident occurred at the Grand Canyon National Park on Sunday as a hiker lost his life, marking the third fatality at the iconic park in the past month.

The Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a distressing call around 2 p.m. reporting an unresponsive individual on the Bright Angel Trail. Despite the efforts of witnesses and first responders who administered CPR, the hiker, a 50-year-old man from San Angelo, Texas, could not be revived.

This unfortunate event follows two other recent deaths at the park. On June 29, Scott Sims, a 69-year-old from Austin, was found in a semi-conscious state on the River Trail. Prior to that, on June 16, a 41-year-old man was discovered unconscious on the Bright Angel Trail. Tragically, neither of these individuals could be resuscitated.

As investigations into these incidents continue, the National Park Service has not yet released the causes of death. However, authorities have issued warnings about the extreme heat conditions in the Grand Canyon, with temperatures soaring up to 120 degrees – even in shaded areas.

Visitors are advised to avoid hiking in the inner canyon between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to reduce the risk of heat-related issues. Furthermore, emergency response times may be delayed during the summer months due to various factors such as limited staff, high volume of rescue calls, employee safety protocols, and restricted helicopter operations in extreme heat or adverse weather conditions.
