A man from Maine is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to run down a town constable with his vehicle in Sullivan County, New York. Paul Gosselin, 63, of Augusta, Maine, was arraigned in Town of Fallsburg Justice Court on charges including attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer, aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, and first-degree assault, all felonies. He also faces charges of resisting arrest, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, and third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, all misdemeanours. Gosselin was remanded to the Sullivan County jail without bail pending further court proceedings.

New York State Police encountered Gosselin on July 2nd when they responded to a report of a suspicious individual in a vehicle at a business on Route 97 in Barryville. Gosselin reportedly threatened the troopers, claiming he had a gun and would shoot them. He then fled to another business on Route 97, where he got in and out of his vehicle before driving towards a Town of Lumberland constable who was on foot.

During the incident, a trooper fired several rounds at Gosselin, striking him once. The injured man received first aid from the troopers on the scene before being transported to a local hospital by emergency medical services. No charges were initially filed against Gosselin, and the name of his attorney is not yet known.
