In a heartwarming story from Staunton, Virginia, Pat Trice embarked on a vacation to Myrtle Beach and returned with a special feline companion. Rosie, a calico cat, captured Trice’s heart despite her unique condition – she has no eyes.
Trice explained, “Her eyes are just shut. So, it’s not like she’s got eyes, they are literally not there.” Rosie lost her eyesight as a kitten due to a severe infection, which eventually led to the removal of both eyes when she was just five months old.
As the superintendent of the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind, Trice is no stranger to individuals with visual impairments. She shared, “She is very, very sensitive to new sounds. It scared her when she had to walk through the kitchen the first time. The dishwasher was on, she did not know what that was. It’s going to take her a while to get used to that.”
Despite her lack of sight, Rosie impresses everyone with her intelligence and adaptability. Trice noted, “Her senses are extremely heightened. I mean, sometimes I wonder if she does have eyes because she will follow the sound. She hears everything. She senses where things are.”
