Correa, 44, is currently on paid administrative leave from his security position at the High School of Science and Technology in Springfield following the charges brought against him.
In a recent court hearing, prosecutors requested a bail amount of $50,000, while the defense argued for a lower bail of around $2,500. Ultimately, Judge Robert Santaninello set Correa’s bail at $10,000, sparking controversy among local officials and residents.
According to court documents obtained by Western Mass News, Judge Santaninello considered various factors in his decision, including Correa’s financial resources, the nature of the charges, potential penalties, employment history, community reputation, and even the risk of COVID-19.
