Accident – Death – Obituary News : In a tragic incident that occurred last month at the intersection of South Powers Boulevard and East Fountain Boulevard in Colorado Springs, two individuals lost their lives. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified the victims as 72-year-old Olga Gauvala and 51-year-old Emily Hoffman.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) reported that the fatal crash took place on Sunday, June 16, just after 11:30 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders found Gauvala and Hoffman deceased. Another individual involved in the crash was transported to the hospital, although their identity and current condition remain undisclosed.
CSPD’s investigation revealed that the collision was triggered by a vehicle driven by 40-year-old Shawn Johnston, travelling southbound on South Powers Boulevard. Johnston allegedly ran a red light and collided with Gauvala’s vehicle, leading to a chain reaction that caused Gauvala to hit another vehicle, resulting in it rolling onto its passenger’s side. Tragically, Hoffman was the passenger in the overturned vehicle.
Johnston sustained serious injuries in the crash and was subsequently arrested on charges of two counts of vehicular homicide, DUI, and other traffic-related offenses. This incident marks the 28th and 29th traffic-related fatalities in Colorado Springs this year, with the corresponding number at 22 during the same period last year.
