COLUMBUS — A man accused of breaking into an Ohio pet store was arrested early Tuesday morning.

Columbus Police officers responded to a report of someone breaking into Roosters and a nearby pet shop just after 3 a.m. on Tuesday, as reported by WBNS in Columbus.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the suspect had broken into the restaurant and the pet shop, releasing several animals in the process.

Sgt. Joe Albert of the Columbus Division of Police stated, “To my knowledge, officers have been able to recover two dogs, multiple birds, a hamster, and a couple of bunnies.”

When the suspect was apprehended, he was found asleep near Big Lots with four hamsters hidden in his pants.

Matthew Pancake, aged 31, is currently in Franklin County Jail facing charges of breaking and entering as well as vandalism.

The incident has caused distress among animal lovers and authorities are working to ensure the safety and well-being of the recovered animals.
