FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – A 67-year-old man, identified as Kirk Medak from Soldotna, lost his life on Monday in an officer-involved shooting on South Kasilof Beach in the Kenai Peninsula. The incident unfolded when Alaska State Troopers (AST) responded to reports of a man threatening people with a sword.

According to AST, Medak was armed with a sword and a 7-foot-long harpoon, and he was making threats to harm individuals on the beach.
