Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 13-year-old girl was taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital after a pickup truck she was riding in was rear-ended on state Highway 19 in Chimacum. The incident occurred around 10:04 p.m. on Monday when Jhony C. Vergara Sanchez, 34, of Port Townsend, attempted to turn left into a driveway in his 1997 Ford Ranger. Silas R. Riggle, 31, of Port Hadlock, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet GMT-400 and collided with the Ford Ranger.

Abileni Mujica, 31, of Port Townsend, who was also in the Ranger, sustained injuries but was not transported from the scene. The condition of the 13-year-old girl, whose name was not disclosed due to her age, is currently unknown. Both vehicles sustained damage but were driven away from the scene.

All four occupants in the Ranger, including a 5-year-old boy, were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Riggle and his two passengers, Boone C. Garten, 31, of Hansville, and Alan M. Hinds, 50, of Chimacum, were unharmed as they were also wearing seat belts. The State Patrol confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected to be factors in the accident.

Following an investigation, the cause of the collision was determined to be due to following too closely. The State Patrol emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe following distance to prevent such incidents in the future..
