Upon arrival, a female resident informed the deputy that a local man, Bacon, had visited their home to see their new baby. Despite her request for privacy to dress, Bacon made unwanted advances by touching her and offering money in exchange for sexual favors.

Despite her refusal, Bacon persisted in making monetary offers for sexual acts, escalating from $100 to an outrageous $8,000. The woman’s discomfort and distress were evident in her plea for him to stop.

A second woman at the residence corroborated the inappropriate behavior, indicating that Bacon had been drinking and had also attempted to solicit sexual services from her and her partner. The unsettling encounter involved physical contact and persistent monetary offers for sex.

On June 6, Bacon was released under strict conditions, including abstaining from alcohol and mood-altering substances, and refraining from contact with the victim. He is scheduled for his next court appearance on July 29.

Lake Park man sentenced for felony DWI

Michael Ernest Bruns Jr., 44, residing in rural Lake Park, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for a felony DWI charge, following a plea agreement that resulted in the dismissal of a second felony DWI charge.

On the evening of February 6, 2024, a state trooper near Lake Park observed a vehicle making erratic maneuvers on Highway 10, ultimately stopping at a gas station with no license plates but a temporary North Dakota permit displayed.

The trooper’s suspicions were confirmed upon approaching the driver, Bruns, who exhibited clear signs of intoxication, including glassy eyes and the smell of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. Bruns’ breath alcohol content was recorded at 0.28, significantly exceeding the legal limit.

Bruns’ prior history of six impaired driving incidents, including three DWI convictions within the past decade, led to a sentencing decision by Judge Gretchen Thilmony on April 19.

Bruns was handed a 36-month prison sentence, suspended for five years, with 180 days to be served in jail, credited for 73 days already served. He was placed on supervised probation for five years, with mandatory electronic alcohol monitoring for 30 days annually.

Additional conditions include abstaining from alcohol and drugs, undergoing a comprehensive assessment with follow-up recommendations, and participating in a Mothers Against Drunk Driving impact panel.
