Nashik: Another tragic hit-and-run incident occurred in Maharashtra, resulting in the death of a 31-year-old woman in Nashik city. The incident took place on Tuesday evening when a speeding car struck the woman, causing fatal injuries. The driver of the car, a 51-year-old man named Devchand Rambhau Tidme, was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. After the collision, the driver fled the scene but was later apprehended by the authorities. The victim, identified as Archana Kishore Shinde, was walking home from work when the tragic incident occurred.

According to reports, the car hit Shinde from behind on Bardan Phata-Shivaji Nagar Road, near Gangapur Road, leading to a serious head injury. Despite efforts by witnesses to alert the driver, the car did not slow down and struck the woman. The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene, leaving Shinde in critical condition. CCTV footage of the incident and information from a vigilant citizen helped the police track down and arrest the driver at his residence. Medical tests confirmed that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident, which impaired his ability to control the vehicle.

Legal Actions and Investigations

The Gangapur police have filed charges against the driver under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 281 (rash driving), along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. An investigation into the incident is currently underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

This incident adds to a series of recent hit-and-run cases in Maharashtra, including a fatal accident in Mumbai’s Worli area involving a BMW car and a tragic collision in Pune that claimed the life of a police officer. The alarming rise in such incidents highlights the need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations and heightened awareness among motorists to prevent further tragedies.
